Safety First:
"The protocols for C-19 were clearly stated and fully
enforced. Excellent!"
-- In-person Course Graduate (anonymous), 8/2020
"The COVID19 info presented was highly informative, and
essential to everyone understanding the importance of the protection practices
on-site throughout the weekend but also moving forward in our daily lives."
-- In-person Course Graduate Laura R., 8/2020
Our in-person classes far exceed all CDC and WHO safety guidelines and
government regulations, for zero exposure to any infectious disease.
- We anti-virus sanitize all facilities (knobs, switches, surfaces,
chairs, armrests, faucets, toilet seats, etc.) -- before class, and again
after class. We're medical professionals, we know how to do it right.
- Our physically-distanced check-in procedure, *outside of the classroom
space/facility,* includes the following and
more:
- From a distance: verification of suitability of mouth, nose and
eye coverings.
- no noses sticking out, no masks with exhalation valves, etc.
- Sanitizing hands.
- 14-days pre-course extensive symptoms screening questionnaire
and discussion.
- Scan of each participant's body temperature each morning
- Physically-distanced seating of participants, in a way that
maintains distancing throughout class including when one gets up to go to
the bathroom.
- Hand-out reminder of the Safety Rules (below).
- Strict Safety Rules
Handed Out, Posted, and Followed On-site -- the entire time, while class
is in session and not, everywhere including in bathrooms.
- Break a safety rule = that person removed from class.
- In reality, participants do follow the rules, either because they're afraid to get
removed from class, and/or because the first course topic -- all about
coronavirus transmission, including critical evidence-proven medical
facts that USA governments and media have not made widely public --
makes everyone strongly appreciate, respect, and want to comply
with the safety rules.
- Full
transparency: all feedback surveys from our most recent class
(as
of last edit of this web page in Sept. 2020)
- See last question in surveys, on coronavirus safety
-
Photos from our last class (as of last edit of this web
page in Sept. 2020)
- View text description, as well as student
compliance with safety rules.
Description of In-Person Course:
"Beyond the Golden Hour First Aid" may be the most appropriate title
for this class -- that is, providing first aid immediately when it happens,
and then continued for hours to days until hospital arrival (if needed).
In this class you'll learn how to assess and treat, plus when evacuation is
necessary and when it is not -- empowering you to keep rescue services and
hospital beds available for others, especially during the pandemic.Skills learned apply to:
- Outdoor Adventures:
Wilderness First Aid (WFA)
- from casual hikes, to expeditions of any type.
- Disasters (Natural or Terrorist):
Disaster First Aid
- hurricane, earthquake, active shooter, vehicular onslaught, etc.
- Protests & Rallies
- Accidents traveling through rural areas
- Daily life in rural areas, or in cities if you want to learn how to help
yourself or someone else in any first aid situation
- Travel to remote areas:
Travel First Aid
... anytime, anywhere 911 is far away, unreachable (no cellphone
service), or overwhelmed.
Course Overview and Topics
- Added in, when class begins, is an extensive presentation on
coronavirus, and how to stay safe in class and while out in
the world giving
care amidst a pandemic.
- People are still getting injured out there. Our class is the
perfect opportunity to learn how to give care safely amidst the
infectious disease world crisis.
Hands-on Practice: How Do Safely in Class?
Two ways to attend:
- Best option: register with a non-social-distancing partner(s)
(who must also fully register), and practice skills on each other, while
distancing from everyone else.
- Qualifying partner(s) sign a form attesting that for the two
months prior to class, each week several times per week they've been in
close proximity without masks, such as living together or intimate
partner.
- Also quite good: attend alone and bring a homemade mannequin
(think scarecrow, but not as messy) as your patient. Another
physically-distanced course participant will be your "Patient Voice,"
expressing pain, informing you when you finds something wrong on your
manikin patient, and providing
you with kudos and constructive feedback at the end of each encounter (in addition to
the instructor doing so).
- This works surprisingly well. MEDIC is extremely
committed to ensuring each graduate comes away with *great* caregiving
skills and confidence; we would not offer this option if we hadn't tested
it and (frankly, to our surprise) found that it actually works out great.
