At MEDIC we celebrate and welcome people of all races, ethnicities, places of origin, gender identities, sexual orientations, religions, creeds, abilities, and ages (teens on up) to learn with us. As Allies we work hard to create a safe learning space for everyone, and remove anyone who expresses hate during class. As Wilderness First Responders outdoors, Wilderness EMTs in ambulances, Street Medics in protests, Search and Rescue mission team members, and educators, our mission is to use and teach life-saving skills, empowering individuals as safety bubbles enveloping all who are around them. May those skills serve to bring us all closer together as we care for our human family.
Part of being effective caregivers is creating physically and emotionally safe environments for all patients. As educators, we strive to create the same for our students. Here at MEDIC, in line with our Collaboration + Respect + Safe Learning statement, we recognize that remaining silent about systemic racism, discrimination, and violence facing Black and Brown communities fails to create the safe spaces our patients and students need. MEDIC chooses to use its platform to amplify voices of justice, to stand in solidarity with BIPOC and other marginalized communities, and to create safe and comfortable spaces void of judgment or microaggressions where Communities of Color can come to receive WFA and WFR certification and train to become WFA and WFR instructors.
We support Black, Indigenous, and other Communities of Color in the movement towards a more racially-just outdoors.
Presently we offer the following; please contact us to let us know how we can be of service to your group, listed or beyond.

"Being in a space with other people of color made it a very comfortable space to learn in. The anxiety of feeling like you don't belong in a space/place can seriously interfere with what is being learned/presented." Brittany B
“I felt everyone was included equally and that it was a welcoming and supportive environment for me to learn in with other BIPOC.” Kristin L
“Thank you so much for providing these opportunities to be in and learn about the outdoors. My confidence in feeling like I too belong in outdoors spaces and my willingness to learn about new outdoor activities has greatly increased.” Anonymous
"Never before have I had a course like this that was so thoughtful and inclusive. From posted gender neutral bathrooms to gender-inclusive language/pronouns to consistently discussion about what things look like on all skin colors, giving equal time & weight to dark/black skin. DEI was absolutely stellar. And the open learning environment encourages standing/floor sitting/snacking. Really positive, supporting learning environment." Victor L
Endemic to medical education in much of the Western world, is teaching first aiders through medical professionals what injuries and illnesses look like on white skin only. This abomination results in both missed and mis-diagnoses in people with dark-complexion skin. We at MEDIC SOLO denounce this racist practice, and include in our courses: presentations on what various conditions look like on dark skin. Black skin matters.
Thank you to The Bronze Chapter for collaborating to inspire more and more Black, Indigenous, and People of Color to feel safe adventuring outdoors
Thank you street medics for all you risk and do to enable change and progress.

Since 2007 MEDIC SOLO Disaster + Wilderness Medical School has been teaching wilderness medicine and first aid across the USA from Florida to Alaska, and excitingly welcomes invitations abroad. MEDIC is an affiliate of SOLO, the oldest continuously-operating school of wilderness medicine on the planet, and the only wilderness medical school run by (not just occasionally consulting) a wilderness and emergency physician who has performed over 1,000 alpine rescues. The Wilderness Medical Society presented their highest award to the SOLO doc, for being a founding father of wilderness medicine worldwide.
