Director of Online and Blended Learning Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Programs

My journey in emergency and wilderness medicine began with a deep commitment to community health and service. I’ve worked as a street medic, providing care in high-pressure environments, and coordinated mutual aid efforts to support underserved populations, including migrant communities. These experiences have shaped my approach to teaching Wilderness First Aid (WFA), blending practical, hands-on training with a strong focus on community and preparedness. In addition to my work as the Director of Online and Blended Learning Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Programs, I’m the founder of the DC Health Justice Clinic, where I oversee community health initiatives and help bridge gaps in healthcare access.

Interests

  • I’m passionate about community health, especially street medicine and mental health advocacy. I believe in the power of education and hands-on care to improve health outcomes, especially in underserved and marginalized communities. Staying updated on advancements in emergency medical care, disaster response, and mental health is important to me, as I’m always looking for new ways to better support both individuals and communities in times of need.

Values:

  • I value principles like anti-oppression, radical consent and autonomy, and community-based care, which guide the way I approach healthcare. I’m committed to fighting against discrimination and systemic inequalities, while always respecting people’s autonomy and ensuring that care is given with full consent and cultural awareness. I believe in doing no harm, carefully considering the impact of my actions on both individuals and the community as a whole. Knowledge sharing is important to me, as I’m passionate about empowering others with the skills they need to be self-sufficient and resilient in their own communities. I also appreciate non-hierarchical organizing, where every voice is valued, regardless of certifications or experience. At the core of my work is a dedication to community connection, building relationships and providing care that is both accessible and deeply rooted in mutual support.
