The trainer went into depth with any questions the group had to explain the reasons and science behind the situation. This was the most thorough 2 day course I have attended to date.

Never before have I had a course like this that was so thoughtful and inclusive. From posted gender neutral bathrooms to gender-inclusive language/pronouns to consistently discussion about what things look like on all skin colors, giving equal time & weight to dark/black skin. DEI was absolutely stellar. And the open learning environment encourages standing/floor sitting/snacking. Really positive, supporting learning environment.

I feel really empowered by the depth and clarity of the instruction - previous first aid courses have left me feeling like I might mess up and harm someone; this one makes me feel like I know how to avoid that.

The quality of teaching and the personality of each instructor was ABSOLUTELY STELLAR. There is a lot more to learning than just the textbook curriculum, especially with medical situations. The person to person interactions and how we communicate with the patient can also affect positive or negative outcomes. [The instructors’] gentle demeanor and … wonderful dramatizations of the patients were extremely enlightening.

Excellent course and instructor!!! Very informative classroom and text book instruction, but I learned the most from mistakes I made as a caregiver during hands-on practice sessions!! When you roll play trying to save an unconscious patient, and realize you made a mistake, you will always remember that lesson when it may really count in the future. Practice in addition to class-room adds confidence and a real desire to continue learning and refreshing lessons learned. It is not as easy as it might look or appear when reading a book or listening in class. Hands-on practice with expert observation and encouragement makes this the best first aid course I’ve ever taken. Well worth the time and $.

The best darn wilderness first aid course anywhere, hands down!! 20 hours of intense learning through practice scenarios prepares you most anything that can happen when you're out in the boonies, beyond the help of first responders.

About four hours into your course, I realized how much more intense it was compared to my previous classes. The subjects in this course were covered more in depth than the other classes. As the class went on, I learned more and more, from both the classroom work and the practical work during the scenarios. Wow. Thank you. My previous classes paled in comparison to what I got from you and your class. I left feeling I had much more knowledge, skills and confidence.

It exceeded my expectations. The course was taught with so much enthusiasm and professionalism. The hands on practices were perfect or getting muscle memory or WFA procedures.

Honestly exceeded [my expectations]. I wasn’t expecting to get so much applicable hands on experience that I feel like I could really use.

I gained both a practical and theoretical understanding of techniques I can use to keep both myself and others safe in the backcountry. I enjoyed serving as both a caretaker and a patient and learned from both experiences.

The course itself is very comprehensive for a beginner first aid course. [The] inclusion of numerous hands-on patient/caregiver scenarios adds to learning and confidence building. Matthew also added "Pronouns" to the list of things for a provider to use/ask when approaching an injured person. This helps us remember to be inclusive and also signaled Matthew's inclusiveness in his classes. Matthew also makes sure that photos of injuries etc... include photos of people with darker skin tones. This is an area sorely underserved in any previous training and Matthew is the first instructor I've had that makes a point of making sure that community is represented. Great course, awesome instructor!
