Instructor

We take a risk when we venture off the beaten path. There’s something magical about being in wild spaces and knowing that your success and safety rests largely in the hands of yourself, your companions, and the resources you’ve brought with you. Our preparations, and what we do in each moment becomes laden with intention that often is lacking in our day to day lives. Helping people discover that intention and preparedness in themselves is one of my biggest passions, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be able to do that with MEDIC SOLO.

Backcountry Emergency Medical Experience

As an Instructor and Course Director with the Colorado Outward Bound School, I’ve spent the majority of my summers in Colorado leading backpacking and mountaineering courses deep in the wilderness of the Rocky Mountains. Acting as a backcountry medical provider for my students gives me firsthand experience taking care of myriad wounds, illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies. Additionally, I taught SCUBA in the frigid waters off the Oregon Coast for several years, giving me further experience with diving medical emergencies and decompression illness. In short, I’ve practiced what I preach; all the skills and topics covered in the Disaster + Travel + Wilderness First Aid Courses are concepts I have routinely practiced in the field while far from definitive medical care.
